Prairie Home Scattering Garden – Derby

12600 E 79th Street South, Derby

This is the first cremation-only cemetery in Kansas.

The cemetery is brand new.  There are no big headstones, just small flat stones.  Family members can bury their loved one’s remains in eco-friendly pouches or they can just scatter them across the field.

According to an article in the Eagle, you can also spread the ashes of pets in the area.

Large funerals are against the rules and the cemetery asks that people donate to the grounds instead of leaving flowers.

The area was blessed by clergy and a Native American before the site opened.  The six-acre park is dedicated to preserving the natural qualities of the area, so limited work will be done on it.
