Jamesburg Cemetery

1815 N. Tyler, Wichita, KS

There are almost 500 people interred in this west side cemetery.

Findagrave does not list any famous people, but one grave belongs to C.H. McCollom.  There is a Wichita school named after him.  He served as a school board member, a township trustee, and created several youth recreational facilities in west Wichita.

Findagrave.com also notes the oldest grave belongs to Carl G. Craig.

Craig was born on June 28, 1880 and passed away a few months later on September 14, 1880.

The city does own Jamesburg, but according to the website, they no longer sell plots.  The city’s website says, “the records received by the companies who previously operated the cemeteries were not complete with ownership records. Because of this, the city will not sell any lots.”

This cemetery is mostly surrounded by trees and on the morning, we were there the weather was beautiful. You could not hear the cars along Tyler and the cemetery had a peacefulness to it.
