The Statue of Liberty is located in front of the Liberal Memorial Library. The library is shaped like an open book.
In 1872, Seymour S. Rogers built the first house in what would become Liberal. Rogers was known for giving free water to travelers. The town’s name reportedly came from their response, “That’s very liberal of you.”
Liberal is also home to the yearly International Pancake Race.
