Idlewild Park – 2937 Oaklawn Drive
Background: This is not one of the Wichita parks. It is in Oaklawn which is a low income area in south Wichita. The park is under redevelopment thanks to help from the neighborhood, the city of Wichita, the city of Derby, and Sedgwick County.
What we did: We were surprised by the size of the park which had soccer fields, baseball diamonds, a splash park, and a playground. The playground had some retro rides for the kids. I say retro because they were popular when I was a kid but were deemed too dangerous and were removed.
The park had a little playhouse where we tried to sell a hot dog (our own KC) but no buyers.
